I’ve logged onto MaxWiki and it looks like a website…

The style or layout of your website

For the “look and feel” of your website, MaxWiki comes with webpage templates, sometimes referred to as Web skins, which can be used straight out of the box, or modified for a more custom appearance.  How to customize webpage templates will be described in the Advanced Guide to MaxWiki.

If your IT folks have already provided you with a "look and feel" for your websiste, all that’s needed now is your content (text, images, graphocs, etc).

Editing an Existing Page

By default, when you login, MaxWiki identifies you as an administrator type of user. This not only allows you to easily edit existing webpages, but also decide who else you want to have edit your webpages. But for now we’ll focus on just your editing your webpages. You’ll notice now that you are logged in to MaxWiki software, there are little note pad and pencil buttons located in various places on the “Welcome” webpage. A single mouse click over any of the note pad and pencil buttons will bring up a new webpage that will allow you to do the following:

Make changes to the existing text Add new text add photos and other electronic images make formatting changes (bolding, underlining, font type, font size, etc.)

When editing a webpage, you have two choices for how to make changes and additions. The first way is using a simple WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor that is very similar to word processing programs like Microsoft Word or Apple Pages. The other option uses a markup language called Textile that is similar, but much simpler to use, than HTML. Using either editing method will yield similar results and is really just a matter of personal preference as to which you use. For a guide on textile formatting tips, single mouse click Here.

Versions

When changes are made to a page, the previous version is still available. This allows you to experiment with a page without worry, because if it gets messed up, it can always be rolled back to a previous version. To see the versions, click on the “version” link that is to the right of the “edit” link.

Note: If you are making changes to a page, it will only create a new version every 30 minutes. This allows you to make a change, save it to see how it will look, and then make more changes without creating a lot of new versions.

Switching between WYSIWYG and Textile Markup mode

When you are in editing mode, notice that the URL in the address bar of your Web browser reads something like:

       http://www.maxwiki.com/_editw/Getting_Started_Guide

The part of the URL that reads "_editw" indicates that MaxWiki is in WYSIWYG mode.  To change over to the textile markup mode proposed simply edit the URL to look like:

      http://www.maxwiki.com/_editt/Getting_Started_Guide

that is, replace the "w’ with a second "t" to the word "edit".
